Meet The Vets

We have a great team here at Gilmore Veterinary Surgery and we pride ourselves on offering a friendly, professional and compassionate service.

Our team represents an enviable combination of experience and enthusiasm with the younger members of the team providing a constant source of innovation. We are proud to say that several members of staff have worked at the surgery for over twenty years!

All our vets and nurses are fully qualified and registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons & Royal College of Veterinary Nurses. As such they comply with the stringent requirements for continued professional education so they are kept up to date with all the current advances in veterinary medicine and surgery.

Dr. Stephen Gilmore MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon & Practice Principle

Mr. Gilmore qualified from Murdoch University in Australia in 1984 since when he and his wife Pamela have built up the Gilmore Veterinary Surgery into the successful practice that it is today.

Mr. Gilmore has always enjoyed general practice and over the years he has developed a large and loyal client base – despite the quality of his jokes! He enjoys both medical and surgical cases and has a particular interest in ophthalmology and canine reproductive disorders. His expertise in this field has resulted in a close working relationship with breeders generally and and the Bull breeds in particular. From complex medical cases to fracture repair and cesarean sections there is little that Mr. Gilmore hasn’t dealt with in his three decades of veterinary practice!

When not at the surgery he can be found spending time with his family, his two lovely dogs, Geoffrey and Poppy, or in his garden where he is a keen amateur gardener. Along with a small group of friends he has recently taken up the ukulele but progress to date is rather slow!

Dr. George Reitze MRVCS
Veterinary Surgeon

George Reitze has been with the surgery for over a decade now, building up his relationships with his clients and immersing himself in surgery life. George has always wanted to be a first opinion Veterinary Surgeon and enjoys the wide diverse nature that comes with such a popular and busy surgery.

Born and bred in Manchester, George studied veterinary medicine and surgery at the Royal Veterinary College in London in the 90’s before returning back to his roots in the Northwest. When not at the surgery George can often be found taking a run around Standish to keep fit or acting a surrogate dad to the practice dogs.

Likes – cinema, comedy shows and visiting family and friends.

Dr. Catherine Morley MRCVS

Catherine joined Gilmore Veterinary surgery in 2014 after spending 2 years at the busy Salford RSPCA hospital. After growing up in Wigan, she graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2012.

Catherine liaises between Gilmores and the Wigan branch of the RSPCA regarding the rehoming of stray cats and enjoys consulting and soft tissue surgery equally and relishes a challenging case.

Catherine lives locally with her husband Gareth, son Samuel, Labrador Indie and 2 rescue cats Ginny and Nox.

Kathryn Waddington
Veterinary Surgeon

Kathryn graduated from the University of Liverpool which is also her hometown in 2013. She now lives locally with her fiancé, James and their two rescue cats Mango and Hendricks.

She has a keen interest in medicine especially endocrinology and in challenging feline cases. Outside of work she enjoys travelling, music and photography.

Megan Worthington
Head Nurse

Megan graduated from Harper Adams university college in 2010. She has worked for several other local practices before joining us in 2013.
